What is the minimum age for riders?

We recommend that children be 8 years or older for trail riding. 6 and 7 year olds can join the rides when accompanied by an adult. In this situation the adult and child are on separate horses and the adult holds a lead rein attached to the child’s horse.

For younger children we offer private riding lessons and pony rides.

Is there a weight limit for riders?

A.

There is a weight limit of 100 Kg for riders. This is based on the industry standard that a horse being able to comfortably carry up to 20 % of its own body weight. Our largest horses are between 550-600 Kg and as such can carry up to 120 Kg which includes the weight of the saddlery/equipment which weighs around 15-20 Kg.

What to wear?

Riders must wear long pants (Jeans, Jodhpurs, Track pants etc.) and enclosed shoes. ASA safety helmets are provided for you at Otford Farm.

Our rides cater to all levels of riding experience, from first-time riders through to experienced riders.

We provide a group lesson before our rides.

When do I need to arrive for my ride?

It is best to arrive 30 mins prior to the ride departure time for registration and helmet selection.

Otford Farm is located on the South Coast railway line, just under 1 hour from Central station. Plan your trip to alight at Otford railway station.

The farm is a 10 minute walk from Otford railway station.

Remember to arrive at the farm 30 minutes before your booked ride.

There a few quality cafes in on the main street of historic Helensburgh. Heading south there is the cliff top Scarborough Hotel, further south along Lawrence Hargrave Drive is the very popular Headlands Hotel. There are also plenty of bakeries and chicken shops along the way for the perfect beach picnic.

There is stunning luxury adults-only accommodation available at Tumbling Waters in Stanwell Tops. There are also plenty of local B & B’s and camping grounds at Coledale. Further south is the popular Bulli Caravan Park. Many stunning beachfront homes up and down the coast are available on Airbnb.
